Ammals at the Zoo
Day after day, I wonder if life will ever be “normal” again. I put quotes around “normal” because I realize everyone has their struggles and what is really "normal." Everyone has their challenges. Life is not always fair. I guess I wonder if I will ever not think about the ‘c’ word daily. I probably won’t. So instead of wondering if the ‘c’ word will ever disappear from my memory, we decided to make memories yesterday. We visited the St. Louis Zoo for the first time with my kids. On the way to the zoo I realized that this was my first time to a zoo too (ha, that rhymed)!
[Side note for my mom when she reads this. No I didn't go. You took Chrisy and left me at home. #BabyOfTheFamilyProbs.]
I was slightly excited.
Lucy learned new words like “ammal” (animal) and “zeba” (zebra). We have a stuffed elephant at home that we named Ellie. She found the life-sized elephant at the zoo and proceeded to point and squeal “ELLIE!”
Marc was determined to show Charlie every animal in the entire zoo. You could stack my legs, Lucy’s legs and Charlie’s legs on top of each other and Marc’s would still be longer. So you can imagine how fast we had to walk to keep up with Marc.
Even though we juggled LJ when her legs were tired, it was a good day. Even though we had to race to a restroom when Charlie said, “I got to go potty Daddy!” it was a good day. Even though my legs hurt and the kids allergies are out of control today, it was a good day. Even though Lucy had to get an xray, get blood drawn and see a doctor, it was a good day.
That’s my conclusion for life as we know it. The ‘c’ word will be a part of our life forever, but we can do normal things and have good days.
We also got some GREAT news yesterday. Our friend Robert is in remission!!! This makes him a 4-time cancer survivor. He gets to do “normal” things now too like homework. He will also have good days.
During the last year I’ve found myself searching the Bible for versus that give me strength and comfort. As you can imagine, every time I found them. This is one verse that I have referenced many times:
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (New King James Version)
Today, I backed up and read the versus before that famous one.
11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. (New King James Version)
Content. Normal. Happy.
God’s got this.
P.S. Lucy's chest xray showed slightly abnormal in her lungs, but the doctor said she sounded fine. She could be coming down with something. Her AFP is 6.9, which is still normal. Our next visit is the end of June.
