He Likes Me!
Every little girl dreams about her wedding. She awes over pretty dresses and bouquets. A little girl’s wedding day is the one time she can be a real life princess. That’s exactly what I had 7 years ago. I was a princess and my wedding was exactly what I dreamt – a fairy tale.
Reality hit soon after we said, “I do.” The fairy tale ended. It ended hard and fast and we understood what “grown-ups” were saying. Marriage takes work.
The fairy tale was over until this year. It’s an odd concept to swallow that I’ve never been more in love with Marc than I am this year. I never thought I could love someone as much as I love him. This year has been the hardest year of my life. It was the WORSE year of my life! There is a silver lining (besides the obvious that Lucy Jo is healthy and happy). Marc and I are closer than ever. Our marriage was tested. We were forced to work as a team, whether we liked it or not. Sometimes Marc chose which role to fill based on my needs.
Here’s an example:
Marc stepped up and was the “nurse” to Lucy at home, so I could be her Mama. He changed her dressings when she needed it. He flushed her broviac line. He did this, so I wouldn’t have to do it. He did this so I could hold her tightly and tell her that everything is going to be okay.
Marc loves our family. Our family equals both sides and everything in between. He thoroughly enjoys being with people he loves.
I could go on and on about how Marc is an awesome father and husband, but I think the one thing that stands out is that Marc enjoys being my husband. He likes me. He really LIKES me. I know he loves me, but it’s so nice to be liked too.
At the end of the worse year of my life, my marriage has never been stronger. I have never been happier.
Happy 7th Anniversary Marc Hubbell.
